Welcome! Sajan Bernese started after I saw a postage-sized color photo and brief description in a library book. The beauty of this breed was evident in that small photo.
From there I met an adult at a dog show and I've never looked back.
My first Berner, Jeni, came home in August 1975. Together we attended the very first National Specialty held by the Bernese Mountain Dog Club of America and even brought home trophies! My involvement in showing and breeding has continued for the past 34 years. My dogs and I live on lovely wooded land on a river that I purchased for the dogs when I left the Washington, DC suburbs in 1976.
As a breeder, my first priority is temperament. Whether the puppy will be a family member, show prospect, or both, the dog must have a sound, secure temperament. I strive for correct breed type, a large, stocky build capable of the draft work that is the Berner's heritage.
